Hiyoku: Wings That Fly Together

OMNY Taiko 11th Annual Concert

In Chinese and Japanese poetry and art, the mythical hiyoku bird has just one wing—it can only fly when it finds its other half and the two work together in harmony. In this concert, OMNY Taiko explores this theme of connection and the beauty of individual voices resonating, not in unison, but in mutual support. Our strength lies in celebrating our differences—our unique bodies, expressions, and rhythms—and having them enrich our performances, our collaborations, and our community.

Through thunderous storms, delicate weavings, and joyful celebrations, each piece in Hiyoku traces the journey of individuals coming together in sound and spirit. We aim to share energy, trust, and support not only amongst the performers, but to you in the audience as well. This is a concert about flying higher because we lift one another—wing to wing, heart to heart.

This year, OMNY Taiko will be joined by New York Taiko Aiko Kai as our special guests!
